Job Description

The Accessibility Coordinator works as part of the Conference Committee, on the Safety, Inclusion and Accessibility team, and serves as the coordinator for all accessibility needs of conference attendees.

Responsibilities

Before the conference

  • Work with the registration coordinator to identify all special needs of attendees.
  • Work with leadership and committee members to ensure needed accommodations are met.
  • Serve as point-of-contact for any attendee with accommodation requests, questions or issues.
  • Coordinate with the Safety and Inclusion Coordinator to ensure efforts are streamlined.
  • Assist with budget preparations for accessibility needs.
  • Monitor and manage the accessibility email inbox.
  • Audit and offer accessibility suggestions to improve the conference and website.
  • Promote the conference through personal social media and professional networks.

At the conference

  • Monitor all assistive and support services personnel.
  • Monitor livestream for accessibility compliance.
  • Connect with any attendees that require support services.
  • Monitor social media channels for accessibility related complaints.
  • Assist with conference setup.
  • Attend joint committee meetings of the annual conference.
  • Resolve any accessibility needs that arise during the event.

After the conference

  • Provide a final report to the conference chairs.

General

  • Facilitate an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required

  • An understanding and empathy for the needs of attendees.
  • Membership in Digital Collegium (including free general membership), which can be fulfilled at application.
  • Familiarity with Digital Collegium.
  • Ability to project manage and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to self-manage multiple responsibilities.

Preferred

  • Previous experience managing accessibility accommodations for an event.
  • Working knowledge of assistive technology.
  • Completed training on procedures for providing reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to work with project management/team communication platforms such as Slack, Clickup, etc.
  • Google Drive proficiency.

Estimated time commitment

  • The accessibility coordinator is expected to virtually attend scheduled Conference Committee meetings and to attend other scheduled team meetings.
  • The time commitment for committee work varies, with a minimum of 3 hours per month and a peak commitment of 10 hours per month (attendance at the Annual Conference notwithstanding).

Length of appointment

One Annual Conference season (usually November – November)
