The Department of Applied Economics invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sustainable Development position.
We are seeking a microeconomist to conduct research on sustainable development. This position is designed to advance teaching and research in this area with an emphasis on the quantitative analysis of issues that cross the boundaries between agriculture, food, natural resources, or the environment.
The incumbent will teach three 10-week quarter classes per year in the undergraduate or graduate programs of the Department of Applied Economics. Undergraduate courses will serve the department's Environmental Economics and Policy major and the Agricultural and Food Business Management major. Graduate courses may include microeconomic theory, applied econometrics, or field courses consistent with the person's expertise and the needs of the department.

To support a research program and graduate students, the successful candidate will be expected to compete for external grants and contracts, which may include those from federal agencies such as the U.S. Agency for International Development ( USAID ) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture ( USDA ), or private funders such as the Gates Foundation. The person will have the opportunity to cooperate with College of Agricultural Sciences ( CAS ) researchers from other departments on interdisciplinary grant proposals and research. Given the visibility and focus worldwide on sustainable development by major foundations, governments, and inter-governmental organizations, this position will also enhance the Departmental and College goals of increasing external grant funding for international education, experiential learning, and applied research.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):
Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.
Requirements :
Ph.D. in applied economics, economics, agricultural and resource economics, or related discipline by date of appointment.
Research accomplishments or potential relevant to sustainable development at the interface of agriculture, food, natural resources, or the environment.
Commitment to engaging in efforts to provide education and research opportunities to people with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and life experiences.
Strong potential for teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate and graduate levels in applied economics.
