Job Description

The Chief of Staff serves as a trusted advisor, thought partner and facilitator to and for the Dean of the UCSF School of Nursing.

In partnership with the Dean and other School of Nursing leaders, the Chief of Staff will develop internal organizational policies, protocols and structures, guiding their implementation and evaluating their effectiveness. Additionally, the Chief of Staff will provide advice, guidance and assistance to the Dean, also acting as her representative, both internally and externally. As such, this leader will facilitate the implementation of and communication around high-level operational priorities.

The ideal candidate will be able to thrive and succeed in a complex organizational environment. The Chief of Staff will work directly with the Dean to drive high-level operational initiatives by managing various projects with different departments, functional units and external constituents. On the dean's behalf, this person will plan and execute high-level decisions with political sensitivity and independently resolve complex operational issues.

The Chief of Staff also supports the Dean in efficient time management, ensuring that the right meetings take place at the right time with the appropriate agenda to effectively advance the School of Nursing. This includes creating and providing briefings for the Dean as required and oversees communication strategies both internally and externally.

This leader must demonstrate advanced project management skills and an ability to gain consensus amongst all levels of staff and faculty, in order to coordinate project outcomes and meet deadlines. The ideal candidate will display political acumen, good judgment, analytical talent, excellent communication skills, as each of these characteristics are essential to success in this role.

The Chief of Staff partners with leaders across UCSF's schools, divisions, departments, working closely with the school's faculty, staff and leader to achieve the school's aims of excellence in research, academics and practice.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $94,400 - $201,800 (Annual Rate).
