Chief Superintendent at Mt. Olivet Cemetery (Wheat Ridge)

Our  Chief Superintendent is responsible for the overall supervision and maintenance of  Mt. Olivet Cemetery and  St. Simeon Cemetery, as well as the   grounds team members. As our  Chief Superintendent , you will assist the Operations Manager with coordinating, facilitating, maintaining and supervising the monument shop, funerals and cemetery grounds. We are looking for someone who will serve as a symbol of the extended community of the Church, who will uphold the Catholic social teachings of the Catholic Church (the Church).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior exposure to heavy equipment
• Assistant Superintendent and/or Cemetery experience a plus
• Able to lift/carry/push/pull more than 50lbs independently
• Manual dexterity more than 75% of the time and rapid movement at times
• Work outdoors in hot/cold temperatures, snow and rain

Responsibilities

• Hire, supervise, and terminate grounds team members
• Ensure all guidelines and regulations are met in a timely manner, on a daily basis
• Maintain cemetery grounds, property, and facilities
• Manage equipment/supplies/merchandise inventory with outside vendors
• Provide families with a professional presentation of the cemetery grounds
• Identify and resolve any hazards on associated properties
• Coordinate and assist with special project/events as needed

Requirements

• A positive/supportive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings, and her work
• Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing
• Ability to communicate, motivate, train and lead staff
• Minimum 2 years of direct supervisory experience
• Associated degree a plus
• 2 years experience in Cemetery operations or related business environment
• Heavy Equipment experience a plus
• Experience using/maintaining vehicles, mowers, trimmers, blowers, backhoes, boom truck, etc.

Mt. Olivet Cemetery was consecrated in 1892 and is located on the western side of the Denver Metro area in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.  It is the largest cemetery in Colorado containing 392 acres.  St. Simeon Cemetery was consecrated in 2004 and is located on the eastern side of the Denver Metro area in Aurora, Colorado. The Mortuary has two locations. The first is located on the grounds of Mt. Olivet Cemetery and was opened in 1981.  The second was the recent acquisition of Caldwell-Kirk Mortuary.  These entities serve the Catholic Community of the Denver metro area and its various parishes, missions, and apostolates and other members of the general public regardless of their religious affiliation.
