Program: Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment - Division of Enforcement, Technical, & Financial Support - Bureau of Case Assignment & Initial Notice
Program Description: The mission of the Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment program is to reduce the number of contaminated sites in New Jersey to ensure the protection of public health and the environment and ready sites for redevelopment.
In 2009, the Site Remediation Reform Act set forth sweeping changes to the way in which sites are remediated in New Jersey. SRRA established the affirmative obligation for responsible parties to remediate contaminated sites in a timely manner. In order to achieve this goal, SRRA created a category of remediation professionals known as Licensed Site Remediation professionals (LSRP). LSRP's "step into the shoes" of the NJDEP to oversee the remediation of contaminated sites. SRRA requires that the LSRP comply with all remediation statutes and rules and consider NJDEP-developed guidance when making remediation decisions.
Project Description: The primary goal of this internship is to contribute to the reduction of contamination to public health and the environment. The LSRP program has demonstrated success in accelerating the process of returning properties to a clean status. The intern will assist with the Block and Lot validation of cases, merging and un-merging activities, creating sites and program interests, and other program related projects.
Preferred Skills: Database and research experience, Microsoft Suite, Google/Bing Maps, GIS
Preferred Area of Study: Majors relating to environmental science, physical science, and biological science, as well as environmental policy.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
