We are seeking a
Director of Accounting to lead financial operations and strategic initiatives. This individual will oversee a team of accounting professionals, manage core financial functions, and serve as a key advisor on financial decision-making. The role requires a mix of technical accounting expertise, leadership skills, and a hands-on approach to driving efficiency and automation within the department.
Director of Accounting Responsibilities: - Lead the preparation of monthly P&L statements and financial reporting
- Oversee Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), and Payroll (Paychex), managing a team of 6-7 accounting staff
- Drive financial Key Performance Indicator (KPI) tracking and analysis
- Conduct variance analysis on revenue and expenses
- Reconcile Sage Intelligence reports with MAS financials
- Manage monthly accruals and reconciliations across multiple divisions
- Oversee and generate commission calculations across various business units
- Maintain department-level and business unit P&L statements
- Supervise payroll and billing for different divisions
- Serve as the firm’s financial representative on a board overseeing multiple mutual funds and ETFs
- Lead the firm’s external financial audits and tax filings, ensuring compliance and timely reporting
- Manage an Office Manager, overseeing office operations including phone systems, supplies, reception, and mail
Director of Accounting Requirements: - Bachelor’s degree required; CPA preferred
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles managing teams of at least 6-7 people
- Industry experience in asset management, investment management, or financial services is required
- Direct experience handling commission structures and calculations within a financial services or investment setting
- Strong financial analysis, reporting, and reconciliation skills
- Hands-on leader with an action-oriented mindset and ability to improve processes
- Effective communicator—high humility, low arrogance, and the ability to be direct when necessary
