Director of Government Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility (Social Purpose) Location Wawa, PA : Job Title: Director of Government Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Location: Corporate Department: Legal Job Summary: The Director of Government Relations and Corporate Responsibility is responsible for leading and developing strategies that integrate the Company's governmental relations efforts and the Company's Social Purpose strategies and objectives into the fabric and framework of the organization. With direct lines of communication to the Company's Chief Executive Officer and President and working closely with internal business leaders on the senior team and across the business, this individual builds and maintains relationships with representatives of federal, state and local government as well as regulatory and enforcement agencies to ensure effective partnerships and developing and implementing corporate strategy related to industry and trade organization memberships, state retail associations as well as forming and integrating the Company's agenda with key business leaders. This individual will build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the organization to ensure the Company's corporate social responsibility and ESG strategies, including the Company's four Social Purpose pillars: environment, people, product, and community, are integrated into the Company's strategic plans and aligns the Company, associates, business partners and customers with strategies aimed at improving the Company's impact while creating long-term business value and mitigating risks. Principal Duties: Government Relations
  • Develop and execute the strategic plan related to industry, federal, state and local government relations to promote the Company's corporate image and develop and maintain key partnerships.
    • Represent the Company on industry boards and committees that are of strategic importance to the Company.
    • Provide professional writing, research support and preparation of draft technical documents on relevant legislative and emerging cultural issues as required. Collaborate in the development of Company messages to government officials, the press and public.
    • Form and integrate the Company's government relations agenda collaboratively with the CEO, General Counsel, other members of management and the Board of Directors, ensuring internal business partners are kept abreast of issues and participating as needed.
    • Direct activities related to the Company's Political Action Committee based on a thorough understanding of the issues that are of strategic importance to the Company's long-term success. Develop key metrics to establish a baseline, measure performance, and document performance improvements for the Company's government relations initiatives.
    Social Purpose
    • Develop strategic relationships with internal and external subject matter experts, such as elected officials, NGOs, industry and advocacy groups, and external stakeholders, in order to advise senior management of the Company on Social Purposes strategies and the Company's signature social purpose initiatives.
    • Oversee the development of key metrics to establish a baseline, measure performance, and document performance improvements for each of the Company's social purpose initiatives.
    • Proactively develop programs, which may include implementing roadmaps, and creating governance frameworks, inclusive of consumer sentiment, internal and external trends, and long term organizational objectives that ensure optimization of corporate social responsibility.
    • Champion causes that are of strategic importance to the Company, including the Company's four pillars of Social Purpose. Attend appropriate functions to gain access and strengthen relationships with elected and appointed officials as well as other key individuals.
    • Oversee the preparation and development of content to present to the Company's Social Purpose and Culture Board Committee.
    Leadership of People
    • Provide overall direction and support for team. Monitor and assess individual work in accordance with high standards of excellence. Provide feedback, coaching, support, opportunities for development, complete performance appraisals, take corrective action when appropriate, and participate in hiring decisions.

    Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred; Master's degree a plus
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Government Relations
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in ESG
    • Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence people
    • Proven ability to communicate complex and varied information to all levels of the organization including the Board of Directors, Management Committee and Senior Leadership
    • Demonstrated business management experience in leading indirect teams and achieving a range of business objectives
    • Prior experience in developing and performing complex financial analyses and developing a business case in conjunction with industry and/or opportunity analyses
    • Experience in community engagement in regard to corporate social responsibility, corporate affairs, or a related area
    • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office suite applications
