Department Specifics: About Accessibility Resource Center (ARC)
The Orange Coast College Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) was established in 1975 to serve students with documented and/or observable disabilities. OCC's ARC program provides educational accommodations, academic counseling, and Educational Assistance Classes to students with disabilities so that they can have full and equitable access to the community college experience. Summary
Provides services that enhance disabled students’ access to and participation in academic and student life activities. Provides and/or arranges for mobility, access, notetaking, tutoring, adaptive/assistive technology, communication access, and testing support services.
10. Prepares periodic reports in compliance with College and funding authority requirements on program activity.
11. Participates in the recruitment and selection of students, temporary help, and volunteers that provide accommodation, tutoring, and support to disabled students.
12. May attend community presentations and meetings to give information about the program and the College’s capabilities to prospective students.
13. Assist with the distribution of adaptive equipment, including inventory to multiple sites for disabled student use.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
15. Required to abide by all District policies and procedures including Board Policy 3050 – Code of Professional Ethics. Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
1. The position requires working knowledge of programs, resources, regulations, and laws encompassing disabled students.
2. Requires basic knowledge of and skill at recognizing the various forms of disabilities and potential accommodations.
3. Requires knowledge of alternative teaching and learning methods and media for disabled students.
4. Requires working knowledge of personal computers and common office productivity software.
5. Requires sufficient language and math skills to do basic pre-college tutoring.
6. Requires sufficient writing skills to prepare correspondence and reports.
7. Requires business math skills sufficient compute totals, percentages, quotients, products, and ratios.
8. Requires sufficient human relations skill to convey technical concepts to students, exercise extreme patience, make contact with outside agencies and employers, and sell the services.

This is an IN-HOUSE ONLY - permanent, categorically funded, full-time, 12-months per year classified position. The District reserves the right to extend, modify, or eliminate this position based upon available funds. The normal hours of work will be Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the flexibility to occasionally work extended hours and/or weekends, if necessary, to meet the department's needs. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor. The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee.

Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment. Pay Philosophy:
Coast Community College District, through policies, practices, and other benefit programs, delivers a fair and equitable total compensation program that promotes equal employment opportunity, inclusion, and workforce vitality. In general, it is the policy of the District to place new employees at the first step of the salary grade. All movement on the salary schedule will occur July 1 of each year for all classified employees.
