Historic Guest Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming seeking a Head Chef.
Our acclaimed dining program focuses on elevated mountain dishes inspired by the region’s seasonal natural bounty and celebrating the heritage of the American West through food, atmosphere, and service.
The staff tree includes a team of 6 cooks (all returning and having 2-3 seasons under their belt) and 3 kitchen stewards for dishes and deliveries.
The dining program includes 3 daily services Monday - Friday and one on Saturday and Sunday for 60+/- guests and up to 40 staff.
Onsite, private housing, salaried position with weekly tips and biweekly payroll. Two days off per week including Saturday nights. Many additional perks to discuss in the interview.
Key Responsibilities:
- Menu Development: Creates and updates the menu with signature dishes.
- Kitchen Management: Supervises the kitchen staff, assigns tasks, and ensures food is prepared correctly.
- Quality Control: Monitors presentation, portion sizes, and flavor consistency.
- Training & Mentorship: Trains and mentors sous chefs, line cooks, and other kitchen staff.
- Ordering & Inventory: Manages ingredient sourcing, inventory, and supplier relationships.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensures the kitchen meets food safety and cleanliness standards.
- Opening & Closing: Because we are a seasonal operation the Head Chef is responsible for the opening and closing of the kitchen each season. A deep cleaning must take place before food can be put out for staff before guests arrive as well as a deep cleaning before the kitchen is closed for the season.

- Lodge Dining Room: Guests enjoy up to three meals per day from the inviting Lodge Dining Room with large windows showcasing Teton views and sunsets.
- Breakfast Buffet – daily Monday – Saturday (exception Wednesdays)
- Lunch – daily Monday – Friday (exception picnic lunches)
- Pre-Fixe Dinner – Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
- Rodeo Buffet – Wednesday before guests are transported to the rodeo
- Picnic Lunch: To go made lunches to enjoy in the backcountry – often from the saddle, hiking or fishing.
- Campfire Cookouts:
- Classic cowboy inspired open-fire Welcome steak night,
- Wednesday morning interactive cast iron breakfast cookout, and
- Friday live-fire Farewell BBQ.
- Staff Meals: Staff typically eat an hour prior to guest meal service. Buffet style in the staff cafeteria.
Employment Details -
- Lost Creek Ranch is a seasonal operation – while the season runs 6/8 – 9/13 you will be expected to arrive at least three weeks prior for training and a week in post-season to close the ranch for the winter. Please note, first preference is given to applicants who have limited to no special commitments during the season and can stay the entire time. It is difficult to train and house staff if early departures take place. Inevitably we hire a few collegiate early returners each year but strive to keep a consistent team throughout the season.
- Pay includes room and board and 3 meals per day at no charge.
- Staff earns an hourly wage and weekly tip pools are shared evenly across all departments – payroll is every other week and direct deposit is available.
- Staff are also eligible for an end of season bonus – which requires staff to stay all season long and return their room in good shape.
- Housing is dormitory in style. Each cabin contains a bunk and twin bed and likely three persons to a cabin. Private rooms are reserved for department heads, returning staff, and then made available to new staff. If you cannot live and work in tight quarters, do not apply.
- All staff is expected to work 40 hours in their department or assisting another. You can expect 2 days off per week. Schedules are dependent upon which department you work within. All staff has Saturday night off.
- We allow staff to use of the pool, gym, sauna, etc. and other ranch amenities including activities like horseback riding and float trips. (an unlimited monthly value)
- We are a zero-tolerance property – We live and work together for 4+ months and expect staff to have good character, decision making and shared values. We reserve the right to terminate staff same day for illicit behavior, drugs/alcohol abuse or lack of work attendance.
- Pets are not allowed. This includes ADA service dogs due to the 85+ head of horses, cattle, wildlife, and shared staff housing with no dedicated pet area. General pets and emotional support pets are also not allowed (nor recognized by ADA).
