Do you enjoy land restoration projects to help improve wildlife habitat and fisheries management? Are you looking to make a difference in California's Wildlife areas?


The Department of Fish and Wildlife is looking for a motivated individual that enjoys outdoor hands on manual labor to help with habitat management activities including restoration and maintenance of upland wildlife, riparian and wetland habitats and removal of invasive plants. Installation and repair of all types of fencing and gates. Repair and replacement of area signs. Construction and maintenance of recreational trails and kiosks. Manual labor for other jobs as needed.

Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor, the incumbent performs a variety of semi-skilled and routine tasks for fish and wildlife habitat improvement on Department lands throughout Riverside, San Bernardino and Imperial Counties, including habitat development and maintenance.

The Fish and Wildlife Technician will professionally represent the CDFW while working and communicating with the public.

In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.

Working Conditions

Ability to work in extreme climates. Climate can range from extremely hot to extremely cold. Windy conditions are also present during the year. This position is labor intensive and requires outdoor field work for most of the day. On occasion, willing to work on holidays, nights, and weekends.

Ability to hike over uneven terrain to get to remote sites and carry 20lb pack for 5 miles. Ability to float for 5 minutes in water.

  • Ability to work with people from varied backgrounds, strong communication skills via email, text, phone, etc.
  • Ability to skillfully operate heavy equipment and implements including tractors, 4x4 vehicles, mowers, seeders, etc.
  • Ability to identify upland game species including quail, dove, etc.
  • Knowledge of land management techniques.
  • Experience working with hand tools, power tools and heavy machinery
  • Experience maintaining equipment.
  • Experience in landscape maintenance
