Job Description

An amazing family residing in Charlottesville, Virginia, seeks a dedicated and experienced Family Assistant/ Nanny to assist with household management and care for their two children, aged 9.5 (going into fourth grade) and 7 (going into second grade). The family is looking for a reliable individual to assist with childcare, household management, and family support duties. The family assistant is a combination of a household personal assistant and a nanny in one role. Many of the tasks this family assistant performs enables the children’s activities and care not to be significantly limited by the parents’ professional schedules and enables the parents to engage in quality moments with one or both children. The ideal candidate has integrity, a good sense of humor, and patience. Must be a proficient swimmer!

Start Date:  ASAP

Employment Type: Full-time, Long-term

Pay: $25-$30/hour

Schedule:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 11am-9pm (10 hours a day). Fridays off!

Benefits : 2 weeks paid vacation, 2-4 sick/personal days, major holiday off and paid, health insurance stipend

Responsibilities:

• Childcare: Pick children up from school, facilitate playdates, transport to various activities, assist children with household tasks (loading dishwasher, cleaning up after themselves), support in development of table manners and provide academic support.
• Cooking/Kitchen Help:  Maintain a digitally shared shopping list, ability to cook wholesome and nutritious meals is expected.
• Household Management: Manage children’s laundry, light ironing, grocery shopping, keeping track of household supplies, birthday planning, research and execute special projects.
• Light Housekeeping : This includes cleaning up the kitchen (loading and emptying dishwasher, wiping counters, sweeping up crumbs, taking out trash/recycling)
• Coordination: Coordinate with housekeeper and other staff; manage household vendors as needed. Coordinate with parents’ professional assistants to manage schedules & calendars.
• Family Support: Holiday decorating, mailing family cards, scheduling activities for both the children & entire family, packing for trips.
• Event Support: Assist in setting up for family/work events and receiving caterers as required.

Live-In Accommodation:
Private ensuite bedroom and bathroom located on the second floor of the family’s home.

Requirements:

• Professional & verifiable experience as a nanny, household manager or family assistant with elementary-aged children.
• Ability to cook nutritious meals from scratch.
• Must be a proficient swimmer and comfortable swimming with children.
• Basic understanding of home maintenance & housekeeping.
• Organizational skills to manage household tasks efficiently.
• Driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Current Adult & Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED certification
• Must be proactive, reliable, and adaptable to changing schedules.

Compensation:

• Hourly rate: $25-28 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Payroll with applicable taxes withheld.
• 11 Paid Holidays: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4th), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve
• 10 Floating Paid Holidays: 1 Birthday, 3 days between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, 6 Days throughout year
• Work car available

Additional Information:

• The family employs a gardener and a housekeeper (not daily).
• This position offers the opportunity for long-term employment and growth within the family’s household.
• The family is interested in candidates who are familiar with Charlottesville, Virginia, or willing to relocate for the position.
• Causal professional dress is expected: nice jeans, t shirts, sweatshirts are acceptable.
