Job Profile Title Temporary Employee - Non-Exempt
Job Description Summary The K12 Gallery Assistant is part of the Learning Programs team dedicated to providing quality visitor experiences for K12 school students visiting the Penn Museum. School students visit the museum Tuesday through Fridays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and participate in gallery tours, workshops, and self-guiding time in the galleries. Some tour operator groups bring K12 students after hours between 4 and 8 pm. The K12 Gallery Assistant will assist with K12 field trips by greeting school students, helping students use bins or cubbies to store lunches and coats, setting up self-guided materials, helping students find galleries during self-guided visit time, and monitoring groups during lunch in Group Dining. This role works closely with Museum security to ensure that student groups are aware of museum rules and adhere to them while in the galleries. This role would keep track of other guiding groups in the gallery from Group Sales and Academic Engagement as well as K12 guided gallery tour programs to recommend other areas of the museum to visit. This role would assist with K12 tour operator groups sometimes in the evening to assist with games and self-guided tour activities. This role works 10 hours per week, must work at least 9:30 am to 1:00 pm, and reports to the School Visit Manager.
Job Description Key responsibilities: (1) Greeting school groups and helping to store coats and lunches in coat bins; (2) review tour schedules making sure groups are where they need to be according to their itinerary for the day; (2) Monitor K-12 school groups self-guiding in the gallery and helping them follow museum rules and providing self-guided materials for students to do; (3) Greet K12 tour operator groups during evening program and help them self-guide in the gallery on occasion; (4) Answering phone calls and providing basic information about the field trip to teachers; (5) Complete safety training including knowing fire evacuation and active shooter protocols and complete orientation training to understand museum history, basic gallery information, and visitor experience information.
