We are seeking a dedicated   Line Cook   with prep and restaurant experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items, ensuring ingredients are properly prepped, maintaining a clean and organized workstation, and monitoring food quality. This role requires strict adherence to health and safety regulations while working closely with kitchen staff and effectively communicating orders. Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes, quality, and presentation standards.
  • Maintain assigned cooking station, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and readiness for service.
  • Follow instructions for portioning, chopping, marinating, and seasoning ingredients required for daily service.
  • Operate kitchen equipment (grills, fryers, ovens, etc.) safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor food quality throughout the preparation process and ensure consistent presentation.
  • Assist in stock rotation, inventory control, and maintain proper storage practices.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, sanitation, and hygiene standards according to NYC Department of Health guidelines
  • Work closely with other kitchen staff to coordinate and communicate orders during busy service periods.
  • Ensure consistency by following standard recipes and procedures without deviation unless approved by the chef.
  • Complete cooking tasks efficiently while prioritizing multiple orders during peak hours.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient workstation.
  • Maintain a positive, team-spirited approach with a willingness to support fellow cooks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Line Cook, Prep Cook, or similar role in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of culinary or restaurant experience.
  • Excellent knife skills 
  • Protein/butcher experience a plus.
  • Professional culinary references required.
  • Experienced in dish-washing and sanitation.
  • Must own a complete knife and tool kit.
  • Must have regular computer access.
  • Impeccable standards of personal hygiene.
  • New York City Food Handler's Certificate is a plus.
  • Strong work ethic, well organized, focused, attentive to details
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and stand for at least 8 hours.
  • Familiarity with various cooking methods, ingredients, kitchen equipment, and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume kitchen and maintain composure.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and a passion for cooking.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced, high-temperature environment.

Location:  The New York Historical

Schedule:  Full Time, On-Site

Base salary: $23.00 - $25.00/hour based on experience
