The current vacancy is a permanent position in our administrative office, located in San Mateo, CA. This position will manage data and performance for San Mateo County Libraries. This position will build and maintain data input and collection processes and data warehousing, visualize data for staff and internal and external stakeholders, and offer actionable insights and recommendations to drive organizational growth. Duties include collecting, organizing, validating, warehousing, and analyzing data. Additional duties include defining key performance metrics for the organization, responsively delivering regular and creative insights through data and performance reports and creating dynamic presentations and visualizations for internal and external purposes. This role supports and advances a data-driven culture and helps the organization define and meet strategic goals.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics and capabilities:

  • Work with several sources of large data files and be able to effectively clean, organize, and manage data.
  • Utilize disaggregated data and qualitative and quantitative data methods that support efforts to increase equity and improve community outcomes.
  • Experience with community engagement practices and survey design to assess program impact and community needs.
  • Develop, collect, monitor, and analyze performance measures to drive program and service improvement and help the organization meet its goals.
  • Use data to create visualizations to communicate key information to stakeholders, both internally and externally, including experience using GIS software.
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly about data and performance both orally and in reports to a variety of audiences.
  • Advanced skillset and comfort in using Excel, PowerPoint, and other platforms, such as Tableau or Power BI. Coding skillset (SQL/Python) and ability to create and maintain automated scripts are desired.
  • Be detail-oriented and able to minimize errors in the use and reporting of data.
  • Be a self-starter and work through problems and challenges independently.
  • Streamline processes and identify opportunities to create efficiencies.
  • Conduct research independently and present findings and recommendations.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Build relationships across the organization and work collaboratively with others, including ability to collaborate with staff and effectively train staff on new data collection methods.
  • Communicate inclusively, with cultural sensitivity and be approachable in verbal, written, and non-verbal communications.
  • Possess a growth mindset and be courageous in trying new strategies, taking risks, and continuously learning.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

 

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a related field. At least one year of professional administrative experience is typically required at the Associate Management Analyst level, and at least 3 years for the Management Analyst level.
