Police Information Technician Location Baltimore, MD : OPENING DATE: 01/17/2024 CLOSING DATE: 01/31/2024 AT 12:00AM MIDNIGHT SALARY $38,313.00 - $45,069.00 Annually EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicant's education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check. PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months. CLASS DESCRIPTION A Police Information Technician utilizes a computer terminal to inquire, enter, clear, cancel and locate criminal and police records information to respond to inquiries by Police Officers and other appropriate law enforcement personnel and agencies. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class may be required to work rotating shifts to provide evening and weekend coverage. Work is performed in an office where employees may be exposed to minor discomforts associated with video display terminals. Work requires minimal physical exertion. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must: EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate. AND EXPERIENCE: Have one year of experience in the operation of computer terminals for data entry and successful completion of a required two-day Maryland State training course in the automated National Crime Information Center System within the first six months of employment. OR EQUIVALENCIES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. NOTE: Failure to complete the required two-day training course within the first six months of hire, at no fault of the agency, will result in grounds for termination. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of computerized data entry.
- Knowledge of the automated National Crime Information Center, Maryland Electronic Telecommunications Enforcement Resource System (METERS) and other systems used in the Baltimore Police Department.
- Skill in the operation of computer terminals, printers and related peripheral equipment.
- Ability to verify and correct data entry errors.
- Ability to refer to a multiple number of reference materials accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement in handling sensitive or confidential material.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
