About the Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD):

 

The Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) is a fully accredited school for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in nursery school through high school. The Indiana School for the Deaf is accredited by AdvancED Indiana and the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD). It provides services to approximately 342 students enrolled on campus. About 60% of the students live on campus during the academic year. ISD offers a full range of social activities, including sports, clubs, and organizations.  

 

Salary:

 

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $37,648.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

 

Role Overview:

 

The Residential Leader supervises and supports residential staff in programming and ensuring a healthy and safe environment. 

 

This role requires you to demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.

 

This is a second-shift position. A typical schedule is:

  • Sunday: 6:00 pm – 12:00 am
  • Monday - Thursday: 2:00 pm – 12:00 am
  • Friday: Off
  • Saturday: Off

 

A Day in the Life:

 

The essential duties of this role are:

  • Ensure smooth operation of residential programs by providing adequate coverage through scheduling, approval of activity sheets, transportation requests, requisitions, and other student and staff requests. 
  • Participate in all student life team meetings and maintain contact with students, residential staff, educational staff, support staff, and parents. 
  • Make recommendations and or decisions for budgetary needs within the student life area and maintain inventories of general supplies and equipment. 
  • Design programs to meet student’s needs, incorporating an understanding of student development in areas of importance to students from preschool through high school. 
  • Promote and oversee the implementation of student programming in the residential setting following the nine student development dimensions: cultural, emotional, intellectual, life planning, physical, political, sexual, social and spiritual. 
  • Assume total administrative responsibility for residential hall management. 
  • Follow emergency procedures for fires, storms, tornado drills, and warnings. 
  • Attend Individualized IEP meetings, annual case reviews, and/or case conferences to ensure student development needs are met. 
  • Ensure all after-work duties are assigned for weekend work, chaperone bus duties, and chauffeur assignments. 
  • Develop Behavior Improvement Plans and oversee Homework Improvement Plans.
  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:

 

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language.
  • Basic understanding of the characteristics, needs, and effective methods to guide students at different developmental and mental stages. 
  • Thorough knowledge of state, federal, and agency rules and regulations. 
  • Working knowledge of administrative and personnel management techniques as related to the effective supervision and direction of programs. 
  • Ability to plan student development programs that will best meet their needs. 
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
