Job Summary

The School of Dentistry (SoD) Dental Informatics IT department invites you to be an important part of our team as a Data Analyst. You'll collaborate with clinicians, educators, researchers, and leaders to maximize the power of data for evidence-based decision-making, operational excellence, and strategic growth. At Dental Informatics, your professional development is a priority. You will report to the Assistant Director of Data Analytics and Development.

You will need to be fully onsite at our office in Ann Arbor, MI for the initial orientation period. After the orientation period, you will be eligible for a hybrid schedule (with weekly onsite requirements).

What You'll Do

  • Partner with clinics, academic departments, and research areas to define requirements and use your expertise to deliver best-in-class analysis.
  • Lead data analysis and automation efforts for the School of Dentistry.
  • Build data products, visualizations, and reports for researchers, faculty leadership, clinical directors, and finance colleagues.
  • Work mostly with Tableau, SQL, and Python, but learn about services like Denodo and Airflow.
  • Collaborate with other data analysts, developers, and the larger IT team and embody the role of a subject matter expert.
  • Work with other units on campus to leverage University-wide tools, services (e.g. Business Intelligence Community of Practice) and national networks (e.g. Healthcare Data and Analytics Association) to bring new technologies to the School of Dentistry.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of experience working with data
  • Proficiency in building impactful dashboards and visualizations with Tableau
  • Proficiency with SQL & Python
  • Experience with creating charts, graphs, and reports and working with users to improve understanding
  • Experience with a variety of databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL)


Work Schedule

The School of Dentistry operates from Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-5:30 PM. Our clinics may operate until 7:30 PM one to two evenings a week and occasionally on Saturdays. IT system upgrades, critical fixes, and maintenance are performed outside of normal business hours.

Work Locations

This is a hybrid position with an onsite presence at 1011 North University Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48109. Your primary working location will be within a set area within the School of Dentistry with the ability for a hybrid schedule. The School of Dentistry comprises multiple clinics and administrative locations in Ann Arbor. On occasion, you may travel to those locations.

What You'll Do As An Intermediate Data Analyst

  • Consult with clinics, academic departments, and research areas to analyze requests and define requirements.
  • Contribute in advancing data automation and analysis.
  • Build data products, visualizations, and reports for School of Dentistry stakeholders.
  • Work mostly with Tableau & SQL, and Python, but learn about technologies like Python, Denodo, and Airflow.
  • Collaborate with other data analysts, developers, and the larger IT team to creatively solve problems.
  • Work with other units on campus to learn about University-wide tools and services (e.g. Business Intelligence Community of Practice) and national networks (e.g. Healthcare Data and Analytics Association).
