Senior Policy Analyst - Georgetown University Law Center

The Senior Policy Analyst works within the Georgetown Center on Poverty & Inequality to alleviate poverty and inequality, advance racial and gender equity, and expand economic inclusion for everyone in the U.S. through research, analysis, and ambitious policy ideas. The center's areas of research include policies, programs, and practices related to tax and income supports, jobs and education, health and human services, and census and data justice. Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct the highest level policy analysis, leading long-term, complex, and mixed-methods research projects.
  • Produce shorter-term analyses on a wide range of issues relating to economic security and opportunity.
  • Perform research methods that may include collecting and analyzing data to identify underlying social and economic problems, and evaluating the effects of existing policies and government programs.
  • Complete robust research and analysis, developing and advancing project strategies a swell as conceptualizing new projects.
  • Contribute to the center's external engagement priorities and activities, representing the center at public events, in the media, and in external meetings.




Work Interactions


This position reports to Managing Director, Cara Brumfield. This position supervises Fellows and student Research Assistants in developing and executing research projects and policy analysis. The position develops and advances an effective and just policy and practice agenda on economic security for the United States.



Requirements and Qualifications

  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years of experience advancing effective and just policies in the United States, plus a commitment to GCPI's mission
  • Deep knowledge of economic security, racial equity, and gender justice policy issues required, with particular expertise in good jobs, public benefits, income and cash support, care economy, or housing policy
  • Established relationships and networks in the economic justice policy field and experience with working in coalition to advance policy goals
  • Experience developing sound research methodologies, collecting, synthesizing, analyzing, and interpreting data and policies, and developing policy recommendations
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and clearly express complex ideas tailored for various audiences
  • Race, class, and gender equity and inclusion experience, skills, and values
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff and managing projects and timelines with a high level of independence
  • Desire and ability to work in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
  • Flexibility & enthusiasm for learning with impeccable attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-driven work ethic, initiative, and accountability
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work with efficiency
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to make timely, informed decisions using judgment and taking into account the facts, goals, constraints, and risks
  • Facility with public use data (e.g. Current Population Survey, American Community Survey, etc.)
  • Government experience (e.g. on the Hill or in a state or federal agency) and experience or interest in data justice is a plus

Pay Range:


The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$66,783.00 - $126,720.23


Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
