The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an undergrad student in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering to work with professional Mechanical Engineers and Scientists to design, analyze, manufacture, assemble, and test thermal hardware in the Civil Space (CVS) division.

The duration of employment is expected to begin as soon as possible and may continue until graduation assuming adequate performance and sufficient funding.

Major Responsibilities:

• Designs and analyzes thermal parts for space flight hardware
• Assists in assembly and thermal vacuum testing of thermal subsystems
• Works under the direction of a full-time Mechanical Engineer
• Students will be required to work graveyard shifts and weekends when certain testing requires it
• Student employees will work 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week when school is not in session

Required Qualifications: 

• Mus t be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or other U.S. person
• Must be currently enrolled at USU pursuing a mechanical engineering or closely related degree with at least 2 years remaining in school (this includes graduate level students)
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision once trained
• An understanding of when to seek direction in assigned tasks 
• Ability to see tasks through to completion
• Self-motivated, dependable, detail oriented
• Ability to balance work and school responsibilities
• Basic understanding of heat transfer by conduction and radiation
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to identify and work through problems that may arise
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MathCAD, and Solid Edge
• Ability to work with other team members for completion of required tasks
