Job Description

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced senior die designer or tooling engineer who enjoys designing dies. Your main responsibility will be creating die designs . You will work independently to design various types of metal stamping dies, such as coining, fineblank, and progressive dies. You'll also design other tools, prototype tools, fixtures, or gauges needed for business needs, using proven engineering and die-making methods. You'll provide feedback on manufacturability to other teams, help and mentor other team members, and support the Tool & Die team in meeting goals related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Growth.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and apply the LTG Die Design Guidelines when needed.
  • Use SolidWorks CAD software to design metal stamping dies, including coining, fineblank, and progressive dies, as well as other tools, prototype tools, fixtures, or gauges.
  • Create strip layouts and die design plans based on customer part drawings.
  • Create surfaces and other shapes needed to complete or modify die designs.
  • Start and lead the die design review process, from strip layout to final design approval.
  • Provide technical input on manufacturability, manufacturing processes, strip layouts, part development, die design, and inspection.
  • Build strong relationships with other teams to ensure new dies and die modifications are introduced effectively.
  • Analyze data to improve existing die designs, focusing on output, quality, and process performance.
  • Create or update Drawings and Bill of Materials (BOMs) for new or modified dies.

Support and guide other Die Design team members.

  • Keep accurate records of controlled documents and changes, following the correct processes.

Education | Experience

  • Completed Tool & Die Apprenticeship or Journeyman certification.
  • At least 5 to 10 years of experience in Die Design.
  • Experience in strip layout and die planning.
  • Knowledge of machine shop equipment, wire EDM, and CNC programming.
  • Proficient in GD&T, blueprint reading, and understanding product manufacturing tolerances.
  • Intermediate to advanced CAD skills, with SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Good written and spoken communication abilities.

Additional Functions

  • May review strip layouts and die designs with peers before the official review process.
  • Help with any tasks in the Tool & Die Shop as needed.
  • Provide CAD support to all departments within LTG when required.

Pay: $50.00 - $57.00 per hour
