MEDICAL RECORDS CLERK

SITE OF SERVICE:

Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Education: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) certificate.

· Experience : Possess a minimum of one year of experience within the last two years working as a full-time employee of a hospital, clinic, or doctor’s office where at least 50% of the duties was specifically focused on the management of medical records.

DUTIES:

· Maintain files in accordance with AR 40-66. File medical documentation and ensure data filed are properly identified. Return loose medical documents to various medical clinics as necessary. Sort and file laboratory slips, consultation reports, physical exams, forms and other materials. Review records for proper sequences of documents, file loose documents, correct misfiles, ensure all documents are together by name and social security number when records are pulled for treatment or administrative purposes.

· Cross-reference indices and compile statistics on requested information pertaining to medical care provided for use in various reports. Assist with record dispositions by copying medical records and forwarding original to various organizations after final approval. Ensure a copy of records is maintained at the clinic.

· Prior to disposition of the record, review entire record for proper sequence of documents and check for duplication of records to ensure the same information has not been sent previously.

· Apply the appropriate guidelines concerning the release of patient medical information. Prepare charge-out record on all files removed showing appropriate office, physician, or clinic to which the file is being charged. 

HOURS:

· Monday through Friday. Monday 5:00am to 2:00pm (possible Monday or Thursday). Tuesday through Friday 6:30am to 3:00pm. Hours may vary on the day will notify ahead of time on any changes on the schedule

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILL

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
