Job Description

We are seeking a talented Python Software Engineer to join our Server Certification team. This role offers the unique opportunity to work at the intersection of hardware and software, ensuring that Ubuntu Server provides the best possible experience on the latest enterprise hardware. As part of the Certification team, you'll develop Python-based testing tools to validate hardware compatibility and performance, helping deliver a seamless, secure Ubuntu experience to users worldwide.

You'll collaborate closely with a wide range of hardware partners, including silicon companies, OEMs, and ODMs, to ensure Ubuntu Server works flawlessly on a variety of devices. If you enjoy troubleshooting, problem-solving, and working with both software and hardware, this position will be an exciting challenge.

What you'll do:

Contribute to open-source testing tools, such as Checkbox and Testflinger.
Troubleshoot hardware compatibility, functionality, and performance issues.
Provide technical support to hardware partners during the certification process.
Guide partners on tools, processes, and product roadmaps.
Support internal teams in customer deployments using partner hardware for data center and cloud products.
Enjoy the flexibility of working from home, with occasional travel to events (2-4 times per year).
Who you are:

Proficient in Python and shell scripting.
Knowledgeable about server-class hardware and system configurations.
Comfortable with Ubuntu, virtualization, and cloud computing.
Confident and capable in customer-facing roles, offering clear and helpful guidance.
Desired skills and experience:

Experience with test automation for hardware compatibility validation.
Familiarity with CI/CD concepts.
Comfortable with virtualization and container technologies such as QEMU, KVM, LXC/LXD, or Docker.
